Blessed

Psalm 32:1-2 says, “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit, there is no guile.” The term ‘Blessed’ simply means happy. It could also be put, “How happy is he.” Transgression here means rebellion, revolting against God and what is morally right. Sin here means offence. Our sin and transgression, or rebellion against God was what Jesus died for. He took it all upon Himself, took the punishment Himself, bore the shame and the humiliation and suffering because of it. And His blood He shed is what makes it possible for you and I to be forgiven by God. Jesus’ blood, His sacrifice, is what justifies a holy and righteous God in forgiving us for our rebellion and offence against Him.

And to be forgiven like this brings on that happiness and joyfulness and blessedness. This forgiveness causes the Lord to not impute iniquity, in other words, to consider us to be immoral or impure, evil or at fault anymore. That forgiveness also brings on a spirit that is without guile, or deceit or falseness.

Wow! Why shouldn’t we be happy? Why shouldn’t we feel blessed? Why shouldn’t we walk with our heads up and a smile on our face and joy in our hearts? If that is what God has done for us, we are blessed and blessed indeed. Don’t let the devil rob you of blessedness. Don’t let him rob you of your joy and happiness in the Lord. He might be able to dictate on the outside some of the trials and troubles and problems and adverse circumstances we may face, like he did with Job. He may be able to bring pain and suffering and sorrow from the outside world. But we don’t have to let him rob us of our joy and our God-given happiness. Temporary sadness may come, but it doesn’t have to remain. Temporary heart-brokenness may envelop us, but it doesn’t have to remain. We can always fight past those things and claw our way to the surface, if you will, and get back to remembering all that God has done for us, starting with the forgiveness we have received from Him. And we can rest assured that forgiveness is only the beginning of the blessings we receive from God. So much more lies in store, including a place called Heaven which is far above and far better than anything down here. 2 Corinthians 4:17 says, “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” ‘Weight’ means abundance. An abundance of glory is waiting for us, and it is eternal, it will last forever. Yes, I think we should be happy! We should feel blessed!
